Policy

Last updated August 30, 2021. We take your privacy seriously — this policy explains exactly what we collect and why.

01

About Us

https://empiria.events (the "Site") is owned and operated by Empiria World Inc., a Canadian corporation with its principal place of business at 29 Skagway Ave, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Empiria World Inc. serves as the data controller and can be contacted at the above address or by email at info@empiria.events.

02

Empiria Events Services

The platform functions as a ticketing and registration service designed to connect people globally through cultural experiences. We enable people all over the world to create, discover, share and register for events in order to connect with their culture and to promote their culture to the world.

This Privacy Policy distinguishes between event creators (Organizers), those attending events (Consumers), and other users — all collectively referred to as "Users." For questions contact us at info@empiria.events or events@empiria.world.

03

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

From All Users: We collect personal data when you voluntarily provide it — such as when you register for access to the Services, contact us with inquiries, or browse the platform. Technical data is also collected automatically, including IP addresses and device characteristics. When non-personal data is combined with personal data, it is treated as personal data.

From Organizers: For event creators, we collect payment information including credit card details and bank account information for processing and tax purposes. Data may also be obtained from third parties including payment processors, banks, and credit agencies.

From Consumers: Event attendees provide financial information when registering for paid events. Organizers control their own registration process and the data they collect. When you register for an Organizer event, that Organizer receives the information you provide.

04

How We Collect Personal Data

Data collection occurs automatically upon account creation, including email address, phone number, address, payment information, and autofill data.

We may also receive information from third-party sources through organizers, other consumers, social media platforms, or payment processors such as PayPal and Stripe.

05

How We Use Personal Data

Specific Reason: Personal data provided for a particular purpose is used in connection with that purpose — for example, responding to an email using the address from which it was sent.

Access and Use: Data that enables service access is used to provide that access and to analyze usage patterns.

Internal Business Purposes: We may use your personal data for internal business purposes, including to help us improve the content and functionality of the Services and to protect against wrongdoing.

Marketing: We may use your personal data for marketing and advertising purposes, including by email, SMS, display media, and targeting other devices. This may include sharing email addresses with social media platforms for targeted advertising. You can opt out at events@empiria.world.

Organizer Emails: We allow Organizers to use our email tools to contact Consumers for their current and past events. The Organizer bears responsibility for these messages.

Interest-Based Data: The platform may make inferences about user interests to target advertising and customize recommendations, potentially on behalf of Organizers.

Aggregated Data: We often conduct research on customer demographics, interests, and behaviour based on personal data. This research is typically aggregated and non-identifying.

06

How Long We Retain Your Data

We generally store information about you for as long as we need it for the purposes for which we collect and use it. Order information is retained for tax and legal compliance purposes.

You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting events@empiria.world. It may take up to 48 hours for us to process an unsubscribe or deletion request.

07

Sharing, Disclosure and Transfer of Personal Data

We are not in the business of selling your personal data. However, disclosure may occur in the following circumstances:

Business Transfers: In corporate events such as mergers or sales, personal data may be part of the transferred assets. Successors maintain data use rights under this policy.

Affiliates: We may share your personal data with our parent companies, subsidiaries, and affiliates, all of which maintain compliance with this policy.

Service Providers: We may share your personal data with contractors and service providers who process it on our behalf, including marketing agencies, payment processors, hosting providers, and support services.

Organizers: When you register for an event or otherwise provide information in conjunction with an Organizer event, that Organizer receives your information. They may send marketing communications under their own privacy policies.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose your personal data if required to do so by law — for example, in response to a subpoena or request from law enforcement — or to protect our rights, prevent wrongdoing, or protect safety.

08

Facebook, Social Media and Third-Party Connections

Connecting Your Account: If you connect with Facebook, we store your Facebook ID, first name, last name, email, location, friends list, and profile picture to provide functionality such as recommending events.

Following Us on Social Media: When you "like" or "follow" us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or other social media, the platform may collect your name, email, and posted content.

Facebook Plug-Ins: Our website may contain Facebook plug-ins such as the "Like" or "Share" button. Facebook receives browser and activity information directly through these plug-ins.

Organizer Marketing: Organizers may use personal data to send advertising through social platforms using provided tools or third-party partners.

Third-Party Integrations: Direct contracting with third-party services may require personal data disclosure to fulfill your requests. We are not responsible for those parties' privacy practices.

09

Cookies

We use cookies to keep track of cart contents while you browse our site. Comment cookies save your details for one year. Login cookies last two days; selecting "Remember Me" persists for two weeks. Post-edit cookies expire after one day.

Embedded content from other websites — such as videos or articles — may collect data, use cookies, and track your interactions in the same way as if you visited those external sites directly.

10

How We Store and Protect Your Personal Data

We use the strongest available browser encryption and store all data on local administration servers. Access is limited to development teams and administrators with password control. All staff with access to personal data are bound by confidentiality agreements.

We save user personal data in Canada and do not transfer user personal data to other countries. Any future transfers would comply with this policy and applicable legal requirements.

Despite reasonable precautions, no method of internet transmission is fully secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your personal data.

11

Your Rights and Choices

Access and Deletion: You can request information about the personal data we hold about you, how it is used, and who it has been shared with. To request deletion or modification, contact events@empiria.world.

Delete Your Account: Registered users can delete their account by logging in and visiting Account Settings, or by emailing events@empiria.world.

Opt Out of Marketing: You can opt out of marketing emails by clicking "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any marketing email or by updating your preferences under "Your Account."

Limit Data You Provide: You can browse the Services without providing personal data, though this may restrict certain functionality.

Do Not Track: We respond to browser-initiated DNT signals. If we receive a DNT signal indicating a user does not wish to be tracked, we will not track that user. We cannot guarantee the same response from third parties.

12

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. Parents should monitor their children's use of the platform. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please report it to info@empiria.events and we will attempt to delete it promptly.

13

International Privacy Laws and GDPR

If you are visiting the Services from outside Canada, please be aware that you are sending information (including personal data) to Canada, where our servers are located. Other countries may not have comparable data protection laws, but this policy continues to govern our use of your data.

For users in the European Union, we adhere to Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). UK users are covered by GDPR as enshrined in the Data Protection Act 2018.

For users in California and other jurisdictions with specific privacy laws, your local rights apply to the extent required by law.

14

Modifications and Consent

This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time to maintain compliance with the law and to reflect changes to our data collection process. The "Last Updated" date at the bottom of this page will be revised with each amendment. We may notify you by email of significant changes.

By using our Site, you consent to the conditions set out in this Privacy Policy. Consent for processing can be withdrawn at any time by contacting info@empiria.events, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

15

Complaints and Dispute Resolution

If you have any complaints about how we process your personal data, please contact us first at info@empiria.events. We will do our best to resolve your concern promptly.

If your issue remains unresolved, you may escalate it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for EU/UK users, to your local supervisory authority.
